mmmm watermelon

I love watermelon. Love. I gave Zoë some watermelon the other day, it's totally not in season here - wait a minute, watermelon is never in season here!  Well I couldn't help it, I paid big bucks for my favorite fruit and I'm happy to report that Miss Z loves watermelon too.
Teaching her that you don't eat the rind was challenging, an 18 month old just doesn't understand why there's one part that you don't eat.  Thank goodness it was seedless!
I have such great memories of eating watermelon in the backyard sunshine as a kid, I can't wait for warm days so I can sit in the sunshine and eat watermelon with my girl.

There are some things that just scream "SUMMER" and watermelon is one of them.
Isn't it funny how when we have our own children we want to share with them to feelings of "happy" we had as children...the summer feelings, tastes and sounds that we can't wait to experience again, through the eyes of our kids.

And - it's tasty.

Delicious post!
If you put that watermelon rind in the freezer for a bit, it makes for an excellent teething-chew-on-thingy!
Buy another watermelon when she's teething and your are set!

You know, I was eying a watermelon yesterday at the grocery store with my 6mo in mind. She's new to food and I've heard great things about frozen watermelon for teething babies. I didn't pick it up but I may not be so strong the next time I'm out.

I love watching kids discover new foods. It's amazing isn't it. Lily's latest is cilantro - she's an odd little thing!

I can't wait for the warmer weather to move east a bit so we can enjoy some yummy watermelon outside too! Calgary is hopefully finished with snow for at least another month!

Feels like summer too! Congrats on no. 3 and hope you are feeling well. I know from experience that it is wonderful to have them close together unless of course your appendix nearly bursts 6 weeks after your c section and your barely 3 year old and 18 month old don't understand where mommy is. Oh and it is a week before Christmas 2009 (which is also your favourite time of the year!!!) But besides that everything is great and my now almost 6 month old adores his big sisters. Chaos will reside in your home but as everyone tells me they won't be small for long...so enjoy. And yes, I have given up on housework!!!

Hi Tamara:
Your post about your little girl and watermelon takes me back. I gave my little girl watermelon for the first time and she just loved it. Someone took her picture and submitted it to Expo 86 (yes, a few years ago) - They posted it and her picture was in the Expo 86 promo film. She still loves watermelon to this day.
Too cute.
